Champlain Basin Program "Casin' The Basin"
ight
public access projects in New York and Vermont
recently received grants through the LCBP. The
public access awards program supports efforts to
improve and enhance public access on Lake Champlain.
LCBP funding for this program was provided by the
National Park Service - Rivers, Trails, and
Conservation Assistance Program.
Ice Storm Damage Clean-up on
Splint Rock Mountain ($3,000)
Boquet River Association, Elizabeth town, NY
The Boquet River Association, along with the NYSDEC
and local volunteers, will clean-up ice storm debris
from hiking trails and install pit privies at
primitive campsites on Split Rock Mountain in
Westport.
Lee Park Beach Enhancements
($1,500)
Town of Westport, NY
The Town of Westport will install canoe and kayak
racks and three picnic tables along Lee Park Beach.
Falls Park Enhancement
($2,500)
City of Vergennes, VT
The City of Vergennes will construct an addition to
the existing concrete boat ramp and install overhead
security lights along the Otter Creek at Falls Park
Lower Winooski River
Canoe/Kayak Lunch Improvements ($3,000)
Winooski Valley Park District Burlington, VT
The Winooski Valley Park District will replace
worn-out riverbank stairways and adjacent boat
slides at both the Ethan Allen Homestead canoe
launch and the Millyard canoe launch on the Lower
Winooski River. Signs will also be installed to
identify the canoe launches from both land and
water.
Marycrest Beach Parking Area
Development ($8,300)
Town of Grand Isle, VT
The Town of Grand Isle will utilize funds to help
develop a parking area along East Shore Road for
Marycrest Beach, which was recently acquired by the
Town.
Ticonderoga Boat Launch Dock
Expansion ($3,000)
Town of Ticonderoga, NY
The Town of Ticonderoga, in partnership with the
NYSDED, will expand docking facilities at the
Ticonderoga Boat Launch. The docks will enable three
times the current number of boats to dock at the
site.
Preservation
of Rock Island ($5,000)
Lake
Champlain Land Trust,
Burlington, VT
Lake Champlain Land Trust (LCLT) utilized funds to
help acquire Rock Island in Panton, VT. LCLT will
hold a conservation easement on Rock Island as a
public access point for boater, anglers, and
paddlers and a wildlife preserve for migratory
birds. The State of Vermont will ultimately own the
property.
Burlington Waterfront
interpretive Wayfinding Program ($4,200)
Downtown Burlington Development Association,
Burlington VT
The Downtown Burlington Development Association will
utilize founds towards the development of "history
posts" designed on a "yesterday and today" approach
to interpretation. |
