Junior Sailing Program The Lake Champlain
Yacht Club will once again offer sailing classes for youth ages 9-16. The program will run
for eight weeks starting mid June and ending in mid August. It is open to both
members and non-members.
There are three different skill levels, which are as follows:
Beginner - Designed for those juniors with little or no previous sailing experience. The
primary goal is to teach the basics of boat handling and seamanship, so that the sailor
will feel comfortable in and on the water. Students must be nine years old and finished
with the third grade. In addition, all participants must be able to swim and pass the swim
test. Intermediate - Designed for those juniors who are able to sail alone or with another
junior and have a working knowledge of the principles covered in the beginner class.
Advanced Racing - This class is for those juniors with a strong sailing background and
desire to race competitively. Junior racers should be capable on the water in variable
weather conditions. They should be familiar with those sailing concepts covered by the
intermediate class.
Applications will be available in mid-April. Please call
Bob Goodwin at 802-425-4005 for more information and to request an application. |
